Waste-Free Kitchen Hack For Kids Lunchboxes

One thing that’s important to me is reducing my waste. Not only is reducing waste better for the environment, but it’s also better for your health!

Often, waste-free things don’t involve plastic and foil and nasty chemicals that can disrupt your endocrine system and increase your toxin burden. If you mamas are interested, I’ll continue to share more hacks and tips throughout the year (let me know via our contact page), but one that I wanted to discuss today is beeswax wraps.

Beeswax wraps hit the market a few years ago, providing a brilliant and sustainable alternative to disposable plastic wrap and aluminum foil— two things you don’t particularly want your fresh and delicious organic food in any way. They’re essentially a piece of beeswax-infused cloth, and you can shape them around your food to fit just like cling film or foil… but without the toxic plastic of aluminum!

I use them to cover bowls, dishes, and leftovers, store avocados and half-eaten fruits, and wrap my hubby’s sandwiches to work. If you have older children, they would be perfect for lunchboxes. You can even get funky patterns that would be a hit with the kids. They are brilliant! They work fantastically, and the wax coating protects the food from moisture while still allowing it to breathe.

You can buy these at most major grocery stores now, including Trader Joe's, for very cheap and on Amazon. If you want to support a smaller local business, Etsy has many sweet ones. If you are feeling extra daring, you could make your own. The internet is full of all sorts of recipes to create your own.

Anyway, I hope you consider making the switch. It’s really simple and will save you money in the long run!
