Bella’s Pregnancy Journey: Week 19 Update

Hey there, beautiful mamas! My name is Bella Yon, I am one of the founders of Mothers2B, a Clinical Nutritionist, and a mum to a wonderful little boy and daughter on the way.

I am diving into the second trimester of my second pregnancy, and I can't wait to share the special moments, challenges, and joys unfolding over the next few months. I would love for you to join me on this journey as we explore the unique experiences and discoveries that unfold during this precious time.

Some things this week:

1. Nurturing LIFE!

As I celebrate being 19 weeks pregnant with my second babe, I can't help but marvel at the miracle happening in my body. God is so good, y’all! I will never get over the way the female body was designed. My little girl, now mango-sized, is growing and thriving. Her tiny taste buds are forming, and her bones are hardening. The vernix is starting to form this week. If you haven’t learned about that yet, head over to the Mothers2B Instagram page and read it here.

2. Special Connections

Feeling those early movements is such a special experience and never gets old. Yes, the physical kicks are precious, but building a lifelong connection with my girl blossoming within is my favorite part. Like little love notes, her kicks reassure me (especially after loss) and deepen our bond.

3. Ultrasound Adventures

This week, Max and I had the anatomy scan. I know this is a hot topic (one I will cover in great depth on this page), but we both feel that a halfway-point anatomy ultrasound is the best choice for our family after weighing up all the pros and cons. We are praising God that everything looks perfect. My placenta is slightly “low-lying,” but my midwife isn’t concerned.

4. Embracing the Changes:

My body is evolving as my little girl grows, and at 19 weeks, it’s safe to say that the bump is out in full force. This is the “sweet spot” of pregnancy, in my opinion. The bump looks cute, but you can still see your feet and move without pain. I’ve found that World Market has some fantastic one-sized, pregnancy-perfect sweaters.

5. Holistic Well-being:

Maintaining a holistic approach to my well-being is a priority. Nourishing my body with wholesome foods, staying hydrated with mineral-rich beverages, and regular bodywork (chiropractic and prenatal massage)  have become priorities.

Nutrient of the week: Calcium

In the second trimester, particularly in this stage around weeks 17-20, calcium is crucial as my baby’s bones harden. Calcium is constantly being transferred from me to her so it’s very important us mamas are getting enough. It also helps prevent preeclampsia. My favorite way to get calcium in this week is by enjoying wild-caught sardines. Just one serving size (3oz) of sardines contains 325mg of calcium, which is very generous.

Things I’m loving this week:

  1. Tallow balm. I have been using this one for everything: as a belly balm, facial moisturizer, and primer for foundation.

  2. Speaking of foundation, I just tried this tinted moisturizer for the first time, and I’m obsessed. Super lightweight and makes your skin GLOW! My skin hasn’t been the best during this pregnancy but I find this gives me enough coverage without it looking overly done.

  3. King’s College Choir Christmas Carols. My favorite festive way to gear up for Christmas and worship Jesus.
